As part of the Community Health Posting Programme, students of Rampurhat Nursing Institution conducted an ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) Preparation Demonstration at MD Bazar to spread awareness about the prevention and management of dehydration. The programme was organized with the objective of educating community members on the importance of ORS and its correct preparation, particularly during cases of diarrhea, vomiting, and heat-related illnesses.
During the demonstration, nursing students interacted directly with local residents and explained how dehydration can affect people of all age groups, especially children and the elderly. They emphasized the importance of timely fluid replacement and highlighted ORS as a simple, effective, and affordable solution that can help prevent serious health complications.
The students provided a step-by-step demonstration of preparing ORS using clean drinking water and ORS packets. Participants were encouraged to observe the process carefully and ask questions regarding its usage, dosage, and storage. The interactive nature of the session helped community members gain practical knowledge that can be applied in emergency situations at home.
In addition to the demonstration, students also discussed the signs and symptoms of dehydration, including excessive thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, and reduced urine output. Community members were advised to seek medical attention if symptoms persisted or worsened. The awareness session also stressed the importance of maintaining proper hygiene, consuming safe drinking water, and adopting preventive measures to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.
The programme witnessed active participation from local residents, who appreciated the efforts of the nursing students in bringing essential health education directly to the community. Through such outreach activities, students gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing meaningfully to public health promotion.
